Ultrapure water systems utilize methods such as pretreatment, reverse osmosis technology, ultrapurification treatment, and post-treatment to almost completely remove conductive media from water, as well as reduce colloidal substances, gases, and organic matter that are not dissociated in water to very low levels. Ultrapure water systems are also known as: ultrapure water units, ultrapure water equipment, ultrapure water instruments, ultrapure water systems, and laboratory ultrapure water units. The resistivity of ultrapure water produced by these systems should generally be greater than 10 megohms; water with a resistivity above 10 megohms is considered ultrapure water. High-quality ultrapure water can achieve a resistivity of 18.25 megohms. Laboratory ultrapure water systems are roughly divided into four units: pretreatment, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and terminal ultrafiltration. Tap water first passes through the pretreatment unit to remove larger particles, suspended solids, and some organic matter. It then enters the reverse osmosis unit, where ionic substances and macromolecular substances (such as viruses, microorganisms, etc.) are removed through retention. After that, it undergoes the ion exchange unit to purify and ultrapurify the residual trace ions, reducing the ion content in the water to trace levels. Finally, technologies such as UV and ultrafiltration ensure that microorganisms, organic matter, and pyrogens in the ultrapure water meet the requirements of various laboratory applications.
